30 Brain-Building Sensory Toys to Buy Your Kids

This article provides great sensory toys for building your sensory room at home. Affiliate links are included for your convenience. Integrated Learning Strategies (ILS) is a learning and academic center. As a reminder, ILS is not a health care provider and none of our materials or services provide a diagnosis or treatment of a specific condition or learning challenge you may see in your child or student. If you seek a diagnosis or treatment for your child or student, please contact a trained professional who can provide an evaluation of the child.

Parents always ask what toys they can get their children to help them learn better in the classroom. There are so many toys available, it’s hard to just pick a few. However, there are several available to parents and kids that are fun and also have amazing learning and brain-building benefits. It can be difficult to sift through hundreds of toys at the store, so it’s great to keep a few things in mind.

  1. Not all toys are equal when offering learning benefits.
  2. The popular toys aren’t always the best for learning.
  3. Brain-building and sensory toys don’t have to break the bank.

As you look in stores, remember to find toys for your children that enhance and stimulate their gross and fine motor development, vestibular systems, hand-eye coordination and sensory systems. Sensory toys are by far some of my favorites because they are versatile and provide several benefits combined into one toy.

Sensory toys, along with gross and fine motor toys, typically provide the sensory input children need who struggle with attention, focus and behavior issues.

They also will enhance your child’s ability to write and hold their pencil correctly. Toys that help the vestibular systems and hand-eye coordination will help children with balance and coordination, reading (tracking words on a page), copying instructions from the chalkboard to their paper, getting their thoughts down on paper and they will also improve their auditory, which is used for following instructions and processing the information the teacher is teaching.
