Free Valentine’s Popsicle Patterning Packet

In the Valentine’s Popsicle Patterning packet, we use popsicle sticks to build and create different types of patterns.

Activities in this packet were created for parents, therapists, educators and professionals. These activities can help children and students strengthen the following skills:

Patterning Benefits

In our Valentine’s Sucker Activity slide deck, we focus on getting kids to use their visual system. By using their visual system, kids can copy patterns from a vertical surface to a table or flat surface. However, in this activity packet, we are working on a different area of learning using similar skills.

Because patterning can be a stepping stone for reading, writing and math skills, this packet focuses more on establishing visual skills and hand-eye coordination. Activities like these can help support each of these development areas.

In this activity packet, we use popsicle sticks to improve a child’s patterning skills. The packet requires the child to visually match the following:

• Different angles
• Overlays
• Measurements

Children are still required to use their visual system to recognize where the objects are placed and how they fit together.

In addition, these activities require hand-eye coordination. The child must use their hands and eyes while working together to complete the patterns. Strong development of motor skills are needed to complete these tasks.

Activities that involve this type of patterning allow kids to strengthen the visual system when writing left to right. It can also improve the following:

• Letter directionality
• Letter spacing
• Thought processes
• Sentence structure
