Sleep disruptions can be one of the most challenging parts of the day for many parents and children. Everyone sleeps differently, but there are those kids that struggle more than others. However, there are a few sleep toys and tools you can use to help prevent sleep disruptions. No matter if your child struggles to get to sleep or stay asleep through the night, a few of these sleep toys may make a huge difference.
Before getting started, remember to check your child for one or more retained Primitive Reflexes. If a child has retained one or more reflexes, it could be causing sleep trouble and you may not see improvements until these reflexes are fully integrated.
Because each child has different sleep patterns and can be disrupted by a number of problems, find what triggers them and create a sleep plan based around their specific needs.
What Triggers Troubled Sleepers
Most children struggle with either getting to sleep or staying asleep throughout the night. If you have a child with sensory issues, they may experience sleep disruptions more than others. While it’s normal to have occasional bad dreams, growing pains and restless sleep, most kids develop and adapt to a good sleep routine overtime.
If you have a child who wakes frequently during the week or during the night, they may be awakened by certain sensory stimuli within their environment. Kids who are sensitive sleepers may find they have trouble sleeping when the following happens:
- Wakes to sound or noise in the house (i.e., the hum of a dryer or the snoring of a sibling)
- Has too tight of pajamas around the waist
- Wears certain textures of pajamas or clothing to bed
- Has too tight of sheets
- Awakens to the light of cars or street lights
Children who regularly can’t sleep at night can be short tempered or cranky the next day. They may also be more emotional than other kids and have trouble with attention and focus in school.
Sleep Toys
Children who use sleep toys or other tools can improve their bedtime routine while staying asleep longer throughout the night. Finding what triggers a child’s poor sleeping habits at night is key to knowing what tools and sleep toys may be helpful for that child. As you understand more about your child’s sleep patterns and sleep disruptions, you can adjust items to their individual needs and try other methods that may work better.
Try a few of these sleep toys and tools that may make a difference in child’s sleep and bedtime routine. If there are multiple reasons behind your child’s disruptions, you may want to tackle one area first before working on another area to give kids time to adapt.
