Parents often find their children struggling with information, complex topics, and math problems. They may describe their child as struggling on tests but knowing the material. Slow processing speeds can cause students to appear focused but not complete tasks, causing homework to drag on and impacting relationships.

Slow processing speed is a significant factor in academic and functioning issues in children. It involves the time it takes for a child to take in information, process it, and formulate a response. Intelligent children often struggle to produce expected response times, especially during timed exams or classroom experiences.

Teachers and parents should recognize that slow processing speed is not related to a child's intelligence but rather their ability to quickly absorb and utilize information.
