You may think winter is one of the hardest times for getting kids motivated to move, but it doesn’t have to be. There are many indoor activities you can do in your home or practice that are fun and continue to build the child’s motor development.
In this Winter packet, we are helping kids gain a stronger core. This winter packet is great for therapists, parents and educators. Why are core muscles needed for learning?
Core strength is important for posture, attention and focus, and copying notes on the chalkboard.
In the Winter Core Muscle Activity slide deck, you will find a number of activities focusing on the core and the muscles needed to support higher learning.
Core Muscle Benefits
You may not realize it, but a strong core is needed for learning development in the classroom. There are many core muscle activities that can improve your child or students’ core. Here are a few benefits that come with participating in core muscle activities.
Attention and Focus
Core muscle activities can help prevent a child from fidgeting in their desk. It allows them to have the strength to sit in their chair without moving around or needing to be out of their desk to concentrate.
Posture
Strengthening a child’s core muscles can help a child’s posture so they are not laying on their desk at school. Children with poor core muscle often slump or lay on their desk while writing. In addition, the child may use the support of another arm to sit upright in their chair because they don’t have the strength to sit up straight on their own.
Handwriting Development
Handwriting development begins with the core. Did you know that? A strong core supports all the other elements and body parts needed for better handwriting. Core muscle can stabilize the body for better support of the arms, elbows, forearms, wrists and hands as the child writes across the page.
There are so many other benefits that come from strengthening a child’s core. With the Winter Core Muscle Activity slide deck, your child or students can take part in all these benefits.
