Adults have complex emotions that we try to manage on a daily basis. It is no wonder that children have big emotions too. Consequently, from time to time, kids do not know how to handle their current mental state. I am still amazed at the random events that trigger meltdowns and tantrums. Such small things can elicit strong emotional reactions from tiny, little humans. Dealing with kids tantrums and meltdowns are some of parenting’s most frustrating challenges. There are bigger issues, don’t get me wrong, but in the moment, emotions can run high for parents as well. We have to pull on our own oxygen mask and gear up to be the one who remains calm and patient. Parents and caregivers have to be the individuals that allow the child to pass through the trauma knowing he or she has a safe space.
Emotional meltdowns and tantrums are not the only big emotions and situations children deal with on a daily basis. Kids deal with fears (large and small), self-esteem issues, worries, sadness, social anxieties, impatience, discouragement and many others. There are several ways to help a child with understanding and coping with their emotions. Parent knowledge and patience is by far the most helpful in providing a secure relationship that kids know is positive and reassuring in times of stress.
Diet and exercise have all proven to be helpful in keeping children active and can also help regulate the child’s emotions. Some children who are prone to emotional disorders may struggle more so than their peers with stress and other external drivers that cause the child to experience an increase of negative emotions. Because each child is unique and different, there are many different solutions for certain problems a student faces. It’s important to assess each child individually to determine the best intervention for their specific needs. One such remedy for children who struggle with negative emotions and controlling them is the Bach flower remedy system.
What are the Bach flower remedies?
Bach flower remedies are a series of blends from different wild flowers that are safe and natural. Children are able to ingest the blend, as well as adults and pets. The Bach flower blends were discovered by Dr. Bach in the 1920’s and1930’s. Dr. Bach was a well-known physician, bacteriologist and pathologist in London who decided to take a more homeopathic journey to heal patients. He discovered 38 flower remedies in all that each take on a healing emphasis of a certain emotional state (for example, anxiety or anger). He found that a patient’s moods and severe emotions would improve when taking his blend.
Children with Emotional Issues: How can Bach Flowers help?
Some children experience certain emotional struggles more often and more intensely than others. Parents find that methods that are normally effective in dealing with a child’s natural expressions or frustrations don’t work in intense meltdowns or tantrums. During these situations, many parents express how difficult is it to get through to their child to help them cope with these big emotions. For some children with emotional grounding issues, Bach flower remedy blends can begin to gently restore the balance between the mind and body by dispersing negative emotions like anger, fear, hate, and anxiety, which interfere with the equilibrium of the child’s body as a whole. Something is typically off balance in the child if major emotional meltdowns occur frequently. The Bach flower remedies allow an increase of peace and happiness to take over so the child’s body is able to heal itself.
One frequently used and touted Bach flower remedy is the Rescue Remedy. Parents describe using this for children who need to calm down quickly or those who have strong emotional meltdowns or anger issues. The Rescue Remedy is actually a blend of five different flower remedies created by Dr. Bach to deal with emotional emergencies. The Bach Centre describes this crisis blend to help the individual through any stressful situation. It also helps children who have frequent tantrums, lack patience, struggle with outbursts or have experienced trauma.
Bach flower remedies are used for a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, physical trauma, and even cancer. There is no harm or other issues associated with taking the Bach flower remedies. For more information about how Bach flower remedies can help your child, please review the following:
